At the appraising session, members of the Appraising Council, consultant units contributed ideas around the synthesis report on the dragon fruit project in Tien Giang province by 2025 and proposed the selection the development plan, production areas, the work of agricultural extension and training of human resources, infrastructure investment, facilities and market for consumption, etc

According to statistics, the province has more than 5,100 hectares of planting dragon fruit, concentrated in Cho Gao, Tan Phuoc, Go Cong Tay district. Productivity increased significantly from 31,511 tonnes in 2010 to more than 108,000 tonnes by 2016. The consumption market is mainly domestic and export to foreign market is a small amount. Price is not stable. It is expected that by 2025, the area of dragon fruit in the province will reach about 10,000 hectares, including 7.550 hectares in Cho Gao district and 1,550 hectares in Tan Phuoc district, etc…

Chairman of Tien Giang provincial People’s Committee Le Van Huong emphasized that: In order to develop dragon fruit project in Tien Giang province by 2025, it is need to concentrate on carry out comprehensive measures including priority over traffic and irrigation to be invested in areas specialized dragon fruit, increasing investment in scientific and technical progress, perfecting the model of linkage among members involved in dragon fruit production and trading in the process of production - purchasing - processing, processing and consumption, reducing intermediary expenses in the purchase of dragon fruit.
