Implementing Decree No 55/2017 of the Government on tra fish industry

On June 23, at the Tien Giang convention Center, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam chaired the meeting to implement Decree No 55/2017 of the Government and discuss solutions to develop sustainably tra fish (pangasius) industry. Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan attended this event.

According to the General Department of Fisheries, in the first 6 months of 2017, the pangasius industry such as: producing breed, commercial fish, processing, etc... all increased higher than the same period last year. In the second half of the year, the plan will reach 1.2 million tonnes of pangasius.

Accordingly, many provinces have extensive farming areas to thoroughly review and deepen the implementation of Decree No55/2017 of the Government taken effective from July 1, 2017.

The Decree No55/2017 requires the People's Committee of the province or city directly under the Central Government to produce the breed according to the local land planning, to direct the local aquaculture management agency to issue a pond identification code, to link the breeding, processing and exporting pangasius according to the law, to inspect the implementation and handling of violations in farming and processing of fish in accordance with the provisions of law, etc…

Addressing the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Van Tam said that pangasius is a spearhead industry with potential in the Mekong Delta's fisheries economic structure.

The Decree No 55/2017 of the Government together with the Circular No 07/2017 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have established a common quality standards for pangasius Vietnam so that many provinces develop pangasius farming area to go together with food safety and hygiene in oder to meet the import requirements of the international market.
