New Zealand Ambassador visits Tien Giang province

In the framework of the visit and survey the clean vegetables as well as new high-quality fruit variety funded by the New Zealand Government, New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam, Wendy Matthews and representative of the New Zealand Research Institute of Plant and Food Research have visited and worked with the Southern Fruit Institute on June 29.

The "Development of high quality fruit" project supported by New Zealand Food and Agricultural Research Institute was being implemented in Tien Giang province. The project includes: researching and developing dragon fruit variety, sustainable production, after harvesting and product commercialization.

After five years of implementing the project, the Southern Fruit Institute has created a number of new hybrid varieties of dragon fruit with high quality and different color in comparision wirh the current varieties. The new dragon fruit has a sweet taste, aroma and brown spots. The trial of new varieties may take three to five years to assess the quality of the variety and expand the advanced model.

After visiting and working at the Southern Fruit Institute, the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam and representatives of the New Zealand Plant and Food Research Institute and the delegation visited the dragon fruit plantation area in Cho Gao district. Here, the Ambassador was very excited to witness the very beautiful, high quality new dragon fruit model.
