The cable-stayed 2,000-metre long bridge has cost a total of over VND3 trillion (US$132 million), funded by Australia’s non-refundable aid, the Asian Development Bank’s loans and counterpart funding from the Vietnamese government.

After nearly three and a half years, the main components of the bridge have basically been completed, joining the two sides of the Tien River, said Tran Van Thi, General Director of CIPM Cuu Long, which is responsible for managing the project.

The bridge has been built by a consortium comprising of China Road & Bridge Construction and Vinaconex E&C, with the supervision of the construction undertaken by CDM Smith, WSP Finland and Yooshin Engineering.

The Cao Lanh Bridge connects the city of Cao Lanh and Lap Vo district and is located at a site around 800 metres from the Cao Lanh Ferry Terminal.

It is the second longest bridge, after Vam Cong, as part of a larger project to improve the road infrastructure in the Mekong Delta region.

The bridge is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2017.
