Rising to get rich by planting green grapefruit

If green grapefruit is planted with properly techniques and good care, it will get high productivity, so that many farmers can rise to get rich.

My Tho city is one of the pioneer in planting green grapefruit planting in the province. Chairman of the Gardening Association of Dao Thanh commune Tran Cong Len said: "In 2005, green grapefruit was first planted in Dao Thanh commune. Thanks to the high economic efficiency from the green grapefruit so the area of this crop gradually growed in all communes in the city. Few households got rich after transforming into planting green grapefruit”.

Truong Quoc Nguu in Long Hoa A hamlet, Dao Thanh commune said: "With the average price of about VND40,000 - 45,000 per kilogram, especially the time of "highest price"can up to VND60,000 VND per kilogram; if gardeners plant green grapefruit properly, it will give a high profit." Especially, with high price on last year, he he collected interest over VND600 million.

Nguyen Van Hai in Binh Hoa B hamlet, Song Binh commune, Cho Gao district said that: Many farmers now choose green grapefruit as a key crop to develop their family economy. The price of green grapefruit is stable all year round. However, it is also low (from September and October) but it is also around VND35,000 per kilogram. At this price, growers are still profitable.

Deputy Director of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection Truong Van Cho said: "From the high economic efficiency of green grapefruit, the movement planted this tree developed from 2012 to present.

The province has currently about 1,800 hectares of green grapefruit plantation, the most in the My Tho with 821 hectares, Cho Gao district with 527 hectares, the remaining area concentrated in Chau Thanh district, Cai Lay dsitrict and Cai Be dsitrcit. Green grapefruit has helped many peasants to escape poverty, rise to get rich. In the future, the functional agencies will increase seedling support, transfer science and technology as people ask.
