16 communes recognized as the new rural commune

On the afternoon of January 4, the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee held a meeting to evaluate the implementation of the ational target program on building new rural commune in 2017, to implement the plan in 2018. As a result, in 2017, there were 16 communes recognized as the new rural commune including 5 communes proclaimed. The remaining 11 communes will be officially announced in early 2018. Total communes recognized as the new rural commune in the province is 40 communes (accounting for 27.8% of the total number of communes in the province). The average number of criteria achieved in the province is 13.03 criteria per commune, up 0.8 criteria compared with 2016.

According to a target of 2018, there are 12 to 15 communes recognized as the new rural commune, to raise the number of communes meeting the new rural standards from 52 to 55 communes. The average criteria per commune compared to 2017 are 1 to 1.5 criteria (average 14-14.5 criteria per commune).

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Le Van Huong said that the new rural development program is being supported by the people and must be maintained and brought into play. In the coming time, the new rural development steering committees at all levels and departments related to the new rural criteria should overcome the constraints and enthusiasm for building new rural areas, to pay more attention to the quality of new rural building. In the coming time, districts should have full-time staffs to meet professional requirements and enthusiasm for new rural commune.
