ABO - On June 6, Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee (PPC) Le Van Huong met farmers planted star apple.

According to the Tien Giang province Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the area of planting star apple has decreased to 436 hectares including 256 hectares of Chau Thanh district, 71 hectares of Cai Be district, 40 hectares of Cai Lay district and 30 hectares of Cai Lay town.

The causes of area reduction are the system of dykes against flood and irrigation systems which are not guaranteed; rotten root; dry branches; improper farming techniques; the link production - consumption of star apple products is not sustainable.

The situation of consumption of star apple mainly is in the country including the northern provinces and large cities such as Ho Chi Minh city, Ha Noi city and Da Nang city. In addition, four companies exported 176 tonnes of fruit to the United States market.

At the meeting, Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong said that this is an opportunity for the PPC to connect farmers, scientists and entrepreneurs more close; resolving the problems and obstacles that farmers need to solve.

In addition, Chairman of the PPC wanted farmers to create quality products and meet export standards because the value as well as the grower's income will increase thanks to product export. To closely affiliate with famers, underwriter businesses need to buy product according to the contract and reasonable prices to benefit both sides.
