Localities usher in lunar New Year 2019

ABO/NDO – When the clock struck midnight on February 4, people across the country bid farewell to the old year and welcomed the lunar new year with high hopes and expectations for peace, happiness and prosperity.

Glittering firework shows lit up the sky over Hanoi's Hoan Kiem Lake on lunar New Year's Eve.

Citizens of Hanoi and tourists alike were entertained with dazzling firework displays, an annual New Year celebration of the capital city.

Bach Dang flower street in the central coastal city of Da Nang was crowded with people from the early afternoon. In the eastern space of the iconic Rong (Dragon) bridge, a count-down arts programme was staged with the participation of popular local artists, who performed songs and dances praising the new spring, full of love for the country and its people.

 

In the southern province of Binh Duong, tens of thousands of people flocked to public spaces to enjoy arts performances and brilliant displays at nine locations across the province.

 

On the lunar New Year’s Eve, a delegation from the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism visited tourist sites in Long Ho district and presented li xi (lucky money) to international vacationers, who came from France, Denmark and Germany. The foreigners were also invited to taste Tet cake, a traditional cake of people in Mekong River Delta.

In the last days of the final 2018 lunar month, numerous people visited Nguyen Hue flower street in Ho Chi Minh City to admire the beauty of the flowers and herald the moment of transition from the old to the new year.

 

This year, 15-minute fireworks displays were set off as the clock struck 12 in six locations across city, one of which was a high-altitude display at the Thu Thiem Tunnel area, with the remaining five being low-altitude ones at the Dam Sen Park, the Ethnic Culture Historical Park in District 9, and other locations in the outlying districts of Nha Be, Can Gio and Cu Chi.

 

Also yesterday evening, a count-down programme was held in the central province of Nghe An in the presence of Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue.

 

The event, hosted annually by the provincial Department of Culture and Sports, featured songs and dances by popular singers and dancers. It concluded with a splendid fireworks display at midnight.
