Off-season durian purchased at a record price

ABO - In recent days, farmers in Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province are very excited because off-season durian was purchased at a record price with 80,000 VND per kilogram.

According to farmer Nguyen Minh Hieu, who planted 2,000 m2 of Ri6 durian in Cam Son commune, Cai Lay district, traders are buying at the garden with the average price of 70,000 VND per kilogram, being double the previous month. The best durian is purchased at a record price of up to 80,000 VND per kilogram.

With a yield of about 20 tons of fruits per hectare, each hectare reaches a harvest value of 1.4 - 1.8 billion VND, getting interest not less than 1 billion VND after reducing expense.

Farmer Nguyen Thanh San, who planted 4,000 m2 of Ri6 and Mon Thong durian in Long Tien commune, Cai Lay district, said that: From now to the Lunar New Year, the durian gardens in Cai Lay district in off-season have high prices and good incomes. With this output, the revenue will reaches 560 million VND, getting 400 million VND after lessening expense.

According to the leader of the Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, durian is one of the fruit trees that gives local farmers a high income, averaging a net profit of 1.2 billion VND after one crop. That is because in recent years, people have been interested in selecting good varieties, expanding the area of specialized orchards and synchronous application of intensive techniques. It is estimated that the total durian area of Tien Giang province is about 9,000 ha, concentrated in the western flooded areas: Cai Lay district, Cai Lay town, etc...
