First batch of durian officially exported to China

ABO/NDO- Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan on September 17 announced the official export of the first batch of durian to China, under the protocol signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam and the General Administration of Customs of China.

The export of over 100 tonnes of durian from the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, is the result of long-term negotiation efforts of specialised agencies between the two sides, as well as the persistent companionship of the Vietnamese durian producer and exporter community, Hoan noted.

According to the minister, after nearly four years of preparation and negotiations between the two countries, the official export of fresh durian to the Chinese market demonstrates a very important meaning, because this is the largest consumption market of durian in the world. The official export also helps businesses and farmers in Dak Lak and the whole country earn higher profits from this fruit.

The official export of durian opens up more and more opportunities for durian growers in Dak Lak and other growing regions across the country. The price of durian has increased from 50,000 VND to about 70,000 - 75,000 VND per kg.

The protocol on phytosanitary regulations for durian fruit exported from Vietnam to China was approved by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the General Administration of Customs of China on July 11, 2022.

According to the protocol, Vietnam has 51 China-approved growing area codes and 25 packing facilities approved by the Chinese Customs to ship durian to China, of which Dak Lak is the most approved province with 23 growing areas with a total area of more than 1,500ha and four packing facilities.
