Minh remained unbeaten in all of his nine matches. Despite conceding two draws in the first six rounds, he managed to win the remaining three – including a win over the standard chess champion Mosadeghpour Masoud (Iran) – to stand on top of the podium in a convincing fashion.

The supreme finish earned Minh an additional 15 elo points, thus raising his blitz elo rating to 2602 in the FIDE rankings.

Harsha Bharathakoti of India ended up in second place with 7.5 points, half a point above the third-placed player Moradi Amirmasoud of Iran.

This was the second gold medal won by Tuan Minh in this year’s tournament. Earlier, the Hanoi chess master finished supreme in the rapid chess category, scoring six points after seven rounds.

Minh wrapped up the standard chess competition in sixth place overall with 6.5 points after nine matches.
