The works on display are arranged into four major topics, featuring ceramic objects that were used as daily utensils, or in agricultural production, decoration and architecture, and in religious practices.

The exhibits were collected from 17 cities and provinces across Vietnam’s southern region, such as An Giang, Dong Thap, Kien Giang, Binh Duong, and Tay Ninh province, as well as objects from the collection at Ho Chi Minh City History Museum.

According to Nguyen Huu Gieng, director of the Oc Eo Culturel Cultural Heritage’s Management Board – the exhibition’s organiser, this is the first exhibition to be held with a focus on the art of Oc Eo cultures’ pottery, which flourished between the first and seventh centuries.

The Oc Eo culture formed and developed in the southern region with various geo-ecologies. Hosted by the Phu Nam Kingdom, the Oc Eo culture is one of three influential cultures, along with Dong Son (700BC-AD100) and Sa Huynh (1,000-200BC), to have had an impact on Vietnam and other countries.
