Following his convincing quarterfinal win over no. 2 seed, Sanjar Fayziev of Uzbekistan, Nam was expected to continue in the same vein and produce another impressive victory against the third seeded player, Enzo Couacaud from France.

Couacaud, former world no. 206, has been demonstrating stable form since the beginning of the tournament, emerging as the odds-on favourite for the overall championship title.

However, the Vietnamese star proved to be in top form by cruising to early leads of 4-2 and 5-2 in the first set.

It appeared to be a lucky day for Ly Hoang Nam as Couacaud suffered an unexpected injury and had to pull out in the eighth game, which meant the Vietnamese competitor secured an easy ticket to the final match after just 28 minutes.

The last challenge for Nam will be the final clash with the unseeded UK player, J.Gray, who produced a big surprise by thrashing no. 4 seed, S.Mukund of Indonesia, with a score of 6-1, 6-1 in the other semifinal.

J.Gray is currently ranked 650th in the world, which is also his career best.

The Vietnam F2 Futures 2017 is taking place in the southern province of Binh Duong from November 13 to 19, with 32 players competing in the main event for US$15,000 in total prize money.

Vietnam is represented by Ly Hoang Nam (no. 6 seed), Vu Artem, Trinh Linh Giang and Pham Minh Tuan.
