Vietnam still tops Southeast Asia in FIFA rankings for March

ABO/NDO – Vietnam has maintained its place on top of the Southeast Asian standings despite falling one notch to 113th position with 293 points in the latest men’s world rankings, which was announced by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on March 13.

Vietnam will play guest to Jordan on March 27 in their last Group C match of the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Park Hang-seo’s players did not play any international matches over the past month. However, the team was forced to drop one step in the FIFA rankings for March as Rwanda moved up two notches to snatch the 112th position previously held by Vietnam.

In terms of Southeast Asia, the Philippines followed Vietnam in second place after climbing one spot to 122nd in the world. World no. 129 Thailand remained at third in the region with 238 points, ahead of Myanmar (world no. 142), Indonesia (world no. 162) and Singapore (world no. 171).

There was only a slight change in the world’s top ten rankings, as Poland moved up to share sixth position with Spain (1,228 points). Germany held on to the top spot with 1,609 points, followed by Brazil (1,489 points), 2016 Euro champions Portugal (1,360), Argentina, Belgium, Switzerland (1,197), France (1,185) and Chile (1,161).

After a few months without any international matches, Vietnam will play guest to Jordan on March 27 in their last Group C match of the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers. The meeting will only help to decide the top two positions in Group C, as both teams have already qualified for the finals of next year’s Asian Cup. The result of this match will affect the world ranking of Vietnam next month.
