Vietnam U19s gear up for U20 World Cup ticket

ABO/NDO – Vietnam’s U19 football team, coached by Hoang Anh Tuan, will head to the United Kingdom (UK) in mid-September for a training course, with the aiming of repeating the extraordinary miracle of qualifying for the FIFA U20 World Cup that they produced in 2016.

Vietnam U19s have received a positive response from both the domestic and regional public following their performance at the recent 2018 Suwon JS Cup U19 tournament in the ROK.

After securing two draws agaisnt Morocco and the Republic of Korea (ROK) at the recent 2018 Suwon JS Cup U19 International Tournament in the ROK, head coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his players have received a positive response from both the domestic and regional public.

Vietnam U19s will reconvene on May 15 in preparation for the AFF U19 Championship, scheduled to take place in Indonesia from July 1 to 14. The team will undergo a training course in Guangzhou, China, where they will play three friendly matches.

At the 2018 AFF U19 Championship, Vietnam have been drawn in Group A together with Indonesia, reigning champions Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, and Laos. Group B is made up of Myanmar, Timor Leste, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Brunei. The teams will play in a round robin format to decide the top two finishers from each group that will progress to the semifinals.

Following the tournament, Vietnam U19s will have almost one month left to make last-minute preparations for their 2018 AFC Championship campaign. During this period, coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s team will be offered two overseas training courses by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), including one in the UK in mid-September and the remaining in Japan in early October, before flying to Indonesia for the finals of the 2018 AFC U19 Championship, scheduled to take place between October 18 and November 4.

Vietnam have been seeded in Pot 1 for the upcoming draw of the Asian competition, together with hosts Indonesia, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. Head coach Hoang Anh Tuan and his Vietnamese players are expected to make the last four teams of the tournament, as they did two years ago, thus repeating the miracle of booking a place in the FIFA U20 World Cup next year.
