The film festival will not only bring Vietnamese cinema closer to the international friends but also help popularise the country’s tourism and culture.

After vying for the Un Certain Regard (A Certain Glance) award, which is presented to international films that tell stories in non-traditional ways, “Angel Face” will be screened at cinemas worldwide soon.

“Angel Face” was directed by merging director Vanessa Filho and stars Marion Cotillard, the only actress to ever have won an Academy Award for a French-speaking role.

Besides, “Glorious Ashes” directed by renowned Vietnamese director Bui Thac Chuyen will be present at the most prestigious film festival in the world.

The film has been adapted from two short stories, namely Cui Muc Troi Ve (Floating Rotten Wood) and Tro Tan Ruc Ro (Glorious Ashes), by writer Nguyen Ngoc Tu. It features the fates of three women in a poor rural area and the means they adopt to keep their men.

The film is among 15 projects selected by the festival’s organising board to be introduced in “The Altelier” programme in the Cannes Film Festival.

Earlier, it won a 15,000 USD prize in the Asian Project Market in the framework of the Busan Film Festival in October 2017.

Chuyen, born in 1968, has been popular with “Choi voi” (Lonely) which won the Fipresci International Critics Prize at the 66th Venice Film Festival and “Cuoc xe dem” (Night Run) which won the Cinefoundation’s third prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
