V.League: Patiyo's stoppage-time goal grabs home win for Nam Dinh FC

ABO/NDO – Patiyo Tambwe scored a last-gasp goal in stoppage time to fire Nam Dinh FC to a precious 2-1 victory over SHB Da Nang in the last round of the 2019 V.League first leg on June 15.

Dinh Van Truong put the home side in front five minutes before the break, only to see his effort cancelled out by Do Merlo ten minutes later. It was not until injury time that Patiyo netted a late winner to secure the full three points for Nam Dinh FC.

This was Nam Dinh’s second win in three games under the dynasty of newly appointed Nguyen Van Dung, following a 2-0 triumph against reigning champions Hanoi FC (matchday 11) and a narrow 2-3 defeat at Thanh Hoa FC (matchday 12).

SHB Da Nang could only blame themselves as the wasted opportunities forced them to pay dearly at Thien Truong Stadium. Do Merlo failed to beat keeper Xuan Viet in a one-on-one nine minutes after the first whistle, before squandering another chance with a close-range shot at the Nam Dinh goalie from a comfortable position 20 minutes later.

In the 40th minute, Da Nang keeper Thanh Binh brilliantly parried a shot by Dinh Van Truong but could not prevent him from netting on the rebound to open the scoring for the host team.

Nam Dinh’s joy, however, was short-lived, as Do Merlo headed home for an equaliser just five minutes after the break.

With time running out, both sides made concerted efforts to net the ball, but no more goals were scored during the remaining official minutes of play.

As the match seemed to end in a 1-1 draw, Patiyo became the hero of Nam Dinh FC by earning a last-gasp winner in stoppage time to secure the full three points for Nguyen Van Dung’s side.

The thrilling home-soil victory helped Nam Dinh FC climb to 10th place in the table with 15 points, just three behind SHB Da Nang in eighth.

In another match on the same day, Ho Chi Minh City played out a goalless draw with Thanh Hoa FC to stay on top with two points clear.
