The tournament, taking place from October 10 to 12, brings together four U19 teams from hosts Thailand, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea (RoK) and Uzbekistan.

According to the draw results, Vietnam will play Thailand at 6:30 pm on October 10, vying for a place in the final. This will be the first international match of French tactician Philippe Troussier since he was named the head coach of Vietnam U19s.

Earlier on the same day, the RoK and Uzbekistan teams will clash for the remaining spot in the title match.

Although the Bangkok Cup is just a youth-level tournament, the Thais will without doubt fight their best to defeat the Vietnamese side following their poor head-to-head record against the Vietnamese teams at all levels. Regarding the U19 level, Thailand also conceded a 0-1 loss against Vietnam in an international tournament in early March this year.

On September 12, head coach Philippe Troussier announced a list of 36 players summoned to Vietnam’s U19 team in preparation for the 2020 AFC U19 Championship qualifiers, with the participation in the Bangkok Cup being part of the team’s training plans for the mission.

At the upcoming qualifiers, Vietnam will host the fixtures of Group J, which also gathers Mongolia, Guam and Japan. According to the regulations, the 11 group winners and the five best second-placed teams will qualify for the finals, to be hosted in Japan next year.
