Although it is not until January 10 that Vietnam will play their Group D opener against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the early arrival in Thailand will help Park’s troops to familiarise themselves with the weather, accommodation and training conditions in the Land of Golden Pagodas.

In addition, tomorrow afternoon (January 3), Vietnam U23s will have a last rehearsal with a friendly match against Bahrain U23s, who are already in Bangkok. After the clash, Park will evaluate the players and decide on the 23-man Vietnam squad for the continental championship.

“I am clearly aware that the AFC U23 Championship is of great significance. Vietnam’s football fans and leaders are looking forward to the team achieving good results in the tournament. I always strive to never let Vietnamese fans down. The players and I are determined to achieve the best possible results,” Park told the media ahead of their departure for Thailand.

As scheduled, Vietnam U23s will practise in Bangkok until January 6 and will then travel to Buriram for the first two group fixtures, against the UAE (January 10) and Jordan (January 13). Park’s troops will return to Bangkok later to encounter the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in their last group match on January 16.
