Vietnamese team will enjoy the best conditions to prepare for 2022 World Cup qualifiers, says senior VFF officia

ABO/NDO – General Secretary of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Le Hoai Anh said that the federation is developing the most optimal plan in terms of the schedule of domestic professional tournaments, aiming to ensure the best conditions for the national team to prepare for the remaining matches in the second round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Accordingly, there are two options for the resumption of the 2021 National Football Championship, V.League 1-2021 – either on March 13 or a week later (March 19), depending on the situation of the pandemic control. With Vietnam’s World Cup qualifying matches in March having been rescheduled to June as agreed by Group G teams, the arrangement of the V.League schedule next month will be much more flexible.

The ending time of the V.League 1-2021 is expected to be September 19 under both plans. Therefore, the frequency of matches for a V.League team will be denser – playing a match every 4-5 day. According to the aforementioned schedule, if nothing changes by April 21 when V.League 1 champions Viettel FC compete in the AFC Champions League, the first phase of the V.League 1-2021 will have reached the 10th match-week out of the total 13 rounds.
Anh said that national team coach Park Hang-seo wishes to have about three weeks for training before entering the remaining matches of the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers. It is expected that after completing the post-quarantine medical monitoring process in early March, the Korean tactician will have a meeting with the VFF to specifically discuss the national team’s gathering plan in preparation for the World Cup qualification campaign in June.
The VFF does not rule out the possibility that the Vietnamese team will soon be facilitated to travel to the hosting venue of World Cup qualifying matches to get used to the competition conditions there, the official stated.
