Can Tho kicks off tourism programme to welcome Lunar New Year Festival

ABO/NDO- The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho kicked off a tourism programme entitled ‘Colours of Spring’ at the city’s museum on January 6 to welcome the upcoming Lunar New Year festival (Tet) 2023.

Hosted by the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the four-day event features 27 booths decorated with lanterns, apricot and peach blossom trees as well as images of ‘chung’ (square glutinous rice) cake and watermelon, recreating the traditional Tet celebrations of Vietnamese people.

The event also introduces cultural heritages, art forms, and traditional crafts of ethnic groups in Can Tho city, including mat weaving, wood carving, conical hat decoration, and fruit arrangements.

Visitors to the programme can sample a wide range of traditional cakes and jams in the southern region, such as the pancakes, rice paper, pipe cakes, coconut jam and ginger jam.

They can also take part in exciting folk games, and enjoy colourful art performances by artists and performers throughout the city.
