Hanoi maintains reign at national contest for gifted students

Hanoi took the lead in the recent 2017 National Contest for Gifted High School Students, claiming 146 of the country’s total 2,206 prizes, according to the Division of Testing and Education Quality Assurance at the Ministry of Education and Training.

Nguyen Hoang Tung Lam of the Hanoi–Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the only tenth-grader in this year’s competition, won the first prize in mathematics.

Among the capital city’s ten first-prize winners, Nguyen Hoang Tung Lam of the Hanoi–Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, the only tenth-grader in this year’s competition, was brilliant in maths, scoring 27.5 points.

Other cities and provinces with a large number of prize winners were Hai Phong (92 students), Nghe An (88 students), Hai Duong (82 students) and Nam Dinh (77 students).

The annual events took place from January 5-7, featuring written and practice tests in the subjects of maths, physics, chemistry, biology, literature, history, geology, the languages of English, Russian, French and Chinese and computer programming.
