VIFOTEC Award 2016 honours 45 scientific and technological innovations

The 2016 Vietnam Fund for Scientific and Technological Creations (VIFOTEC) Award will be presented to 45 outstanding tech works, including four first, nine second, 15 third and 17 consolation prizes.

The information was announced by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) at a ceremony in Hanoi on May 15.

Among the four first prizes, the two projects, “Manufacturing a 56-seat passenger boat using the Polypropylene carbonate (PPC) material” by Nguyen Kim Son (James Boat Technology JSC) and “Intensive cultivation of citronella on lands affected by climate change to collect oil for consumption and exports and manufacture microbial organic fertilizer” by Dr. Le Van Tri (Biotech JSC), have also received prizes from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The remaining two belong to two research works in the fields of national defence by Doan Ngoc Hiep (Workshop 23, Factory Z199) and Cu Duc Lam (Factory Z125). Both factories are run by the General Department of Defence Industry under the Defence Ministry.

According to the organising committee, each first prize winning work will be awarded with the Prime Minister’s certificate of merit and VND40 million (US$1,760) in prize money.

The remaining prize winning projects cover the six fields of mechanics-automation; materials technology; information technology-electronics-telecommunication; biotechnology in service of production and life; technologies in service of climate change adaptation, environmental protection and judicious use of natural resources; and technologies saving energy and using new energy sources.

A ceremony will be held in Hanoi on the evening of May 16 to grant prizes to the VIFOTEC Award 2016 winners and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the VIFOTEC.
