Rare animals released back into nature reserve

A total of seven rare animals, including six white-breasted waterhens (amaurornis phoenicurus) and one Asian palm civet (paradoxurus hermaphroditus), were released back into the wild of the Son Tra Nature Reserve in the central coastal city of Da Nang.

The Asian palm civet weighs 1.5 kilogrammes and the six waterhens each weigh half a kilogramme, and both are extremely rare wild animal species.

The animals were handed over to the local forest ranger force by Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, a resident of Ngu Hanh Son district.

Concerning the issue, the Da Nang People’s Committee has recently issued a dispatch directing the handling of illegal wildlife animal trading in the city. Accordingly, the Chairperson of the municipal People’s Committee has assigned the director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct the local Forest Protection Department to strengthen patrols, inspections and the settlement of illegal wildlife animal trading.
