The majority of speakers emphasised the importance of the application of information technology to increasing the connectivity among the value chain of agricultural production in order to boost hi-tech agriculture in Vietnam.

The delegates also proposed that each region which has advantages in agricultural development should develop specific strategies on human resource training.

Director of An Viet Investment and Agriculture Services JSC Dao Ngoc Nam said that Vietnam is capable of supplying many kinds of agricultural products in large volumes and consistent quality.

However, the distribution system shows inadequacies such as farmers usually suffering from declining prices in agricultural products while consumers have to pay high prices, among others.

Thus, Nam added that the identification of the origin of products is essential in building the distribution channels of agricultural products, especially when the current distribution chain of Vietnamese agricultural products has yet to apply effective information platforms to connect with each other.

Director of theVietnam National University of Agriculture Nguyen Thi Lan said that Vietnam needs to change the training programmes for farmers to help them gain access to scientific and technological knowledge to apply to agricultural production so that they can produce high quality products to meet the market demand.

“To carry out technology transfers, farmers must have specific knowledge. Thus, we have to help farmers to approach new technologies in order to apply them in practice,” Lan noted.

Delegates also discussed the accumulation of land to take advantage of land scale to apply high technology, the application of information technology in connecting agricultural production with the market, and the connectivity between enterprises with farmers, among others.

The event was held by the Vietnam National University of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
