According to engineer Bac, Giang sen bird (as Mycteria leucocephala) is a kind of endangered bird listed in Viet Nam's Red Book, which was collected and preserved in Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve in particular and in Vietnam in general.

Over the past years, the Dong Thap Muoi Ecological Reserve collected 12 individual parents. Although this bird lives and adapts to semi-wild conditions, they does not breed so the task of collecting and conserving this rare species faces many difficulties.

The research result of the Tran Van Bac’s project has successfully reproduced seven bird nests with fourteen child birds, of which, the number lived to adult as eleven child birds.

The successful breeding of Giang Sen bird in semi-wild conditions has contributed to the conservation of the rare and precious species listed in Vietnam's Red Book at risk of extinction as well as contributing to the conservation of biodiversity of the province.
