According to the CEC’s report, since its re-establishment in December 2012, the commission has been working hard to refine its organisation while fulfilling its mission as an advisory agency on economic issues for the Party Central Committee, the Politburo and the Secretariat.

The CEC is being tasked with preparing seven important projects with content focusing on reviewing the implementation of major Party policies on socio-economic development in past years and outlining new policies to realise the Resolution of the 12th Party Congress.

Since the start of 2016, the commission has closely watched the socio-economic situation to discover pressing issues in a timely manner and propose measures to cope with issues such as drought in the Central Highlands and south-central provinces, saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta, foreign enterprises’ domination of the domestic retail market and the allocation of land to FDI projects, among others.

After being briefed on the CEC’s operations, General Secretary Trong praised it for its achievements over the past four years and affirmed that the decision to re-establish it was a good one.

He urged the commission to enhance the quality of its research in the time ahead and play a more proactive role in combating corruption and bureaucracy.

The Party expected that the commission would build on its experience and accomplishments to make further contributions to the country’s development as a top advisory body for the Central Committee.

For his part, CEC head Nguyen Van Binh pledged that he and the commission’s entire staff would work hard to better fulfil their duties.
