Over the past 20 years, Quang Nam has emerged from being a rural backwater into a province led by industry and services with a per capita income of VND53 million (over US$2,280), higher than the national average.

Last year, the province’s revenues hit more than VND20 trillion (US$880 million), and the province was one of the sixteen largest contributors to the central budget.
In 1997, the province of Quang Nam–Da Nang was split into Quang Nam province and the centrally governed city of Da Nang.

At the anniversary ceremony, PM Phuc paid tribute to those who had fallen to gain independence for the country and those from Quang Nam in particular, which was severely devastated during the war.

He recalled the difficulties after Quang Nam–Da Nang was liberated and after the province of Quang Nam was re-established.

The government leader asked the province to continue tapping its strengths in terms of its human capital and geographical location by promoting economic links with nearby localities.

He also urged Quang Nam to take better care of heroic Vietnamese mothers, senior citizens, poor people and residents of remote areas.

On the occasion of the re-establishment anniversary, PM Phuc presented Quang Nam province with the Independence Order, first class.
