Local voters’ questions focused on such matters as public investment, environmental protection, protection of children, food hygiene and safety, anti-corruption, social welfare and health insurance, among others.

Responding to queries about how to prevent corruption effectively, the top legislator affirmed the Party and State attach special importance to the work.

She revealed that Party General Secretary, Nguyen Phu Trong as head of the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption directed competent agencies to bring a number of corruption cases to light, with 12 cases required to be clarified and publicised in 2017.

Sharing with voter’s view that it should limit the reform of the educational programme to avoid making pupils and their families confused, the NA Chairwoman said the Ministry of Education and Training will consider this issue.

Regarding the proposal to increase penalties for crimes involving child sexual abuse, the environment and food safety, Ngan said the NA is working to complete the legal system, adding that the revised Penal Code features new crimes relating to food safety, the environment and drug crime with increased penalties.

On measures to minimise child sexual abuse crime, she said the legislature has assigned one of its bodies to supervise this issue and the Ministry of Public Security to report on the situation, thus considering amending the sanctions.

Answering voters’ questions on how to support pig breeders suffering losses due to falling pork prices, she attributed the situation to the oversupply and poor market forecast for production orientation.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has taken measures to reduce difficulties facing the breeding industry in future, she said, urging authorised agencies to give more exact market forecasts.

Regarding the proposal to create a rice trademark, she said the NA will review relevant legal policies to roll out proper policies.

Voters also raised their concerns about illegal investment projects, social welfare and the increase of health insurance premiums.
