In the morning, the Central Committee gathered under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to discuss and apply discipline measures over a Politburo member for violations.

After listening to Politburo Member Tran Quoc Vuong, who is also Head of the Party Central Committee's Inspection Commission, on behalf of the Politburo, presenting the Politburo's report on the sanction for Dinh La Thang, Politburo Member, Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, former Chairman of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN)’s Party Committee and former Chairman of PVN’s Members' Council, as well as listening to Dinh La Thang's opinions, the Party Central Committee discussed and then made a thorough consensus with the Politburo’s report.

The Party Central Committee found that Dinh La Thang, who has worked for nearly 35 years and contributed significantly to the PVN and other agencies and units under his leadership, when serving as member of the 10th Party Central Committee and Secretary of PVN’s Party Committee cum Chairman of the PVN’s Members' Council during 2009-2011, had committed serious shortcomings and violations in leadership, management and personnel works, adversely affecting the Party’s prestige and his own reputation, sparking annoyance among officials, Party members and the people, resulting in the sanction in accordance with the Party’s regulations.

After comprehensively and objectively considering the issue, the Party Central Committee decided to implement the discipline over Dinh La Thang in the form of warning and expelling from his Politburo position with very high votes (over 90%).

The Party Central Committee was off in the afternoon.
