Speaking with the provincial leaders on August 30, NA Vice Chairman Hien spoke highly of the efforts made by the province in obtaining encouraging results in the first eight months of the year.

The province recorded a gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 4.29%, whilst the industrial production index increased by 9.14% over the same period last year. Local budget collection in the first eight months of the year was estimated at VND4.1 billion (equivalent to 67.45% of the annual plan). The socio-cultural fields have seen positive changes and the province has recently begun the construction of 778 social houses for ethnic Khmer people in need.

The NA Vice Chairman noted that the delta provinces in general, and Vinh Long in particular, needed to overcome a lot of difficulties, especially in terms of its socio-economic infrastructure.

Vinh Long should take advantage of rice production, fruit, fisheries, tourism, services and processing industries to make breakthroughs for its development, he said, noting that the provincial authorities should pay greater attention to infrastructure development in transport and irrigation and to apply technology in production in order to enhance productivity, quality and competitiveness.

He also reminded them to pay more attention to the implementation of social welfare policies and the quality of education, aid and healthcare.
