He made the remarks at a working session, with the leaders of Hanoi at the Headquarters of the municipal People's Committee, on the socio-economic development of Hanoi, on September 29.

The PM noted that following the municipal Party Congress, Hanoi has seen stable development with many effective development models.

According to Chairman of Hanoi municipal People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi recorded a GRDP growth rate of 8.1% in the first nine months of 2017 and the rate is expected to increase to 8.5% for the entire year.

The city also posted a total budget revenue of over VND146.4 trillion (US$6.44 billion), an annual increase of over 16%. In the January-September period, Hanoi attracted 398 foreign direct investment projects, with a total investment capital of approximately US$2.16 billion, including 22 projects within the public-private partnership model.

The city has also carried out land clearance on a total area of over 7,000ha in order to implement 1,742 projects.

To facilitate the development of Hanoi, the city leaders submitted more than 20 requests to the Government concerning social housing development, the building and upgrading of markets, building of commercial houses and the selection of contractors in several specific projects, among others.

In particular, the Hanoi leaders requested that the PM approves the project on building and upgrading the vicinity of Hoan Kiem Lake.

Chung also admitted many shortcomings over the past few years, including illegal construction, encroachment of public land, traffic congestion, and environmental pollution at traditional craft villages, among others.

The PM asked the related ministries, sectors and agencies to join with the Government to deal with the requests from Hanoi and create favourable conditions for Hanoi to develop further as a city of peace, renewal, integration and development.
