At the meeting, Deputy Minister of Public Security, Sen. Lieut. Gen. Bui Van Nam, and the leaders of units of the MPS and the MOD, reported to the President on the outcomes of the work of ensuring the absolute security and safety for the events of the APEC Year 2017, especially the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, scheduled for early next month.

Accordingly, since late 2016, the public security and army forces have worked closely with the Subcommittees of the APEC 2017 National Committee, the APEC 2017 National Secretariat, and relevant ministries, sectors and localities, to build and implement hundreds of plans and measures to ensure the absolute security and safety for six Senor Officials’ Meetings, six ministerial-level conferences and hundreds of bilateral meetings held in eight different localities.

The MPS and the MOD have already devised plans to ensure traffic order and safety and to deal with any terrorism or sabotage plots, so that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week will take place with absolute security and safety.

Addressing the session, President Tran Dai Quang recognised and spoke highly of the efforts and proactivity of the MPS and the MOD in their coordination work, which seeks to ensure the absolute security and safety for the events of the APEC Year 2017.

He stated that the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, the most important event of the Vietnam APEC Year 2017, will take place in Da Nang city from November 6 to 11, gathering the participation of heads of states and heads of the 21 APEC member economies, with the highest level of protection.

The State leader urged the MPS, the MOD, as well as the Subcommittee in charge of security and healthcare, and relevant ministries, sectors and localities, to promptly review, supplement and finalise measures and plans to safeguard the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, including both preventive solutions and measures to deal with any arising situations.

He asked the relevant forces to strengthen their measures in order to ensure security and order for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, with a focus on preventing and combating terrorism and sabotage plots; safeguarding participants at the event; enhancing their management over residence, weapons and explosive materials; and ensuring traffic safety and order at the hosting venues of the events during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The Subcommittee for security and healthcare needs to coordinate with the Health Ministry, the Da Nang municipal People’s Committees and relevant agencies, in detecting and dealing with any risk factors with regards to environmental and food security, food and water safety and hygiene, and power sources, in a timely manner, he directed.

President Quang reminded the public security and armed forces to tighten their control over cross-border weapon and explosive transportation; continue detecting bombs, mines, unexploded ordnance and radioactive substances at the hosting venues of the events; and deploy plans to ensure air, sea and land, cyber, and information security.

He requested that the MPS works with other countries’ security and police forces to exchange information related to the work of ensuring security and safety, in addition to collaborating with Interpol and Aseanpol to deploy remote protection campaign for the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, via reviewing the system of data on terrorists, terrorist suspects and wanted international fugitives, in order to take timely preventative measures.
