He recalled that the Military Zone 1 was established on October 16, 1945, covering six north eastern provinces of Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang and Lang Son.

With its strategic position, the area was chosen by the Party Central Committee and Uncle Ho as a key revolutionary base throughout the national anti-French resistance war. Then during the national anti-US resistance war, the area served as a port receiving amounts of military assistance to Vietnam.

As the area is home to 25 ethnic groups where hostile forces take advantage of religious and ethnic issues to carry out their sabotage plans, President Quang asked the force to remain alert and enhance its fighting capacity in order to handle any arising situation.

The force was also requested to coordinate closely with the relevant forces in preventing and combating crimes, thereby contributing to firmly safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while maintaining political security and social order to facilitate national development.

In addition, he called on the force to support local authorities in strengthening local political system, reducing poverty and improving the livelihoods of residents, as well as realising policies targeting Vietnamese heroic mothers, wounded soldiers, family of war martyrs and revolutionary contributors.

The State leader expressed his belief that the Military Zone 1 would continue to promote its glorious history and tradition of the Vietnam People’s Army, embrace every hardship to achieve even greater feats of arm, thus deserving the trust of the Party, State and people.

During his stay in Thai Nguyen, President Tran Dai Quang also offered incense at the Ho Chi Minh Memorial House and at a memorial house of youth volunteers.
