Those attending the get-together in Hanoi included former Party General Secretaries Le Kha Phieu and Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Dai Quang, former President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung, and President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Tran Thanh Man.
The Party chief highlighted the many important and comprehensive achievements reached in 2017. For the first time in many years, Vietnam fulfilled and surpassed 13 of its socio-economic development targets, with the GDP growth rate topping out at 6.81%, the highest level in nearly ten years.
While people’s living standards improved at home, external activities, and international integration gained a prominence that helped to promote Vietnam’s stature in the world.
Defence and security were enhanced, and national sovereignty was firmly safeguarded. The 13th National Assembly approved a number of laws which institutionalise the 2013 Constitution and meet the demands of the new phase of national development, he said.
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong emphasised that international and domestic situations pose various opportunities as well as challenges, which require the entire Party, people, and army to exert their utmost efforts in accomplishing the missions set for this year.
He and other participants toasted the success of the revolutionary cause of the people, the new victories of the Party, as well as the steps forward the country has taken on the path of national development and affluence.
