The conference was co-chaired by Vice Chairmen of the National Assembly: Uong Chu Luu, Phung Quoc Hien, and Do Ba Ty and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam.

Speaking at the meeting, NA Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu said that after reviewing the proposal of relevant NA sub-committees, the NA Standing Committee decided to hold a conference to discuss and collect comments on some important issues related to the revised Education Law, the revised Criminal Law Enforcement, and the Public Investment Law.

He emphasised that the three draft laws received great attention from the public and needed thorough discussion before submission to the 14th NA for consideration and approval.

The conference aimed to bring about practical efficiency in law building activities and promoting the role, responsibility and intelligence of NA deputies to perform their functions, tasks and powers in accordance with the provisions of law, while at the same time improving the quality of bills submitted to the NA, he noted.

In regard to the revised Education Law, deputies focused on regulations relating to teachers; financial investment in education; state management of education; and administration of educational institutions.

They also discussed the revised Criminal Law Enforcement with contents related to the responsibility to manage, supervise and educate conditionally-released prisoners, the execution of non-custodial reform penalty; the use of labour results of prisoners; and the prison regime for pregnant and parenting women.
