Speaking at the ceremony, Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh praised the achievements made by the VPSU over the past 25 year for its development, adding that the union has strengthened efforts to care for its members and consolidate the capacity for its staff.

In the common mandate for the nation’s development in the new era, the VPSU must continue maintaining innovation to improve its efficiency and better fulfil its missions, the deputy PM said, urging the union to focus on several key issues, including selecting really qualified trade union members with great capacity, enthusiasm and prestige in the union work to stand out among the union leading board.

It is necessary for the VPSU to renovate its methods in communications and education to improve political awareness and consciousness in law observance and respect for its member staff, towards better serving the people.

Deputy PM Binh also urged the union to facilitate the implementation of patriotic emulation movements and campaigns among union members and labourers, while better promoting its representative and caring roles for the labourers to protect workers' rights.

Currently, the VPSU has 65 subordinate units with nearly 700 grassroots unions. The number of its union members has increased rapidly, from 22,000 in 1994 to over 240,000 members in more than 3,000 grassroots trade unions.
