Border guards urged to well implement national defence tasks in key areas

ABO/NDO – Defence Minister General Ngo Xuan Lich has asked the Border Guard Command to fully grasp and properly assess the situation in key border areas in order to promptly advise measures to handle any unexpected situations.

The minister made the requirement while chairing a working session between the Central Military Commission’s Standing Committee and the Standing Committee of the Border Guard Party in Hanoi on July 31, discussing the results in the implementation of political tasks and Party building work by the Border Guard Party since the start of its 2015-2020 tenure.

According to Lieutenant-General Hoang Xuan Chien, Commander of the Border Guard, the Border Guard Party Committee and the Border Guard Command have basically fulfilled the objectives and tasks set under the Resolution of the Border Guard Party Congress for the 2015-2020 term, contributing to maintaining political security and social order and safety throughout the border line, actively participating in building local political bases and helping people to reduce poverty, while performing well external defence relations activities improving the ability of the Border Guard forces.

Praising the efforts and achievements by the Border Guard, General Lich said that in order to realise the remaining targets of the 2015-2020 term, the whole force and its Party Committee need to focus on the strict observance of the Party, Central Military Commission and Defence Ministry’s resolutions, directives and regulations.

Minister Lich, who is also a Politburo member and Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, also asked the Border Guards to fully master the situation in key border areas, while forecasting well and properly assessing the local developments so that they can promptly advise the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of Defence to successfully handle any unexpected issues to firmly protect the nation’s independence and sovereignty.

The Party committees and commanders at all levels in the force should concentrate on leading the force, building towards a revolutionary, elite and modern-equipped Border Guards, with qualified officials and soldiers, Lich suggested.

He also asked the concerned authorities in the force to endure the logistics, technical and financial support for Border Guard forces, especially those in charge of disadvantaged and remote areas, while strengthening the inspection, supervision and enforcement of Party discipline and ensuring preparations well for the National Party Congress at all levels and the Border Guard Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term.
