International Mekong Delta agriculture festival opens

The International Agricultural Festival of the Mekong Delta officially kicked off at Can Tho International Exhibition Fair Center, Can Tho City on March 9.

The event was co-organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Center for Research and Application Development of Vietnamese brands under Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations.

The five-day event includes 300 booths of nearly 150 domestic and international businesses, displaying agriculture-related products and technologies.

At the opening ceremony, the organising board presented the ‘creative agricultural science’ medals to 50 outstanding businesses in the Mekong delta. The award honours enterprises and individuals who made remarkable achievements in the search for and production of high-tech equipment for agriculture.

The festival, open until March 13, includes 14 seminars on using technology to improve productivity and quality and a programme to connect suppliers and buyers of agricultural technologies and equipment.

In addition, cultural and entertainment activities are scheduled during the event such as a cooking contest and an Ao ba ba (Vietnamese silk dress) contest.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung said that the festival aims to create opportunities for scientists, inventors, enterprises, cooperatives and farmers to seek investment cooperation to branch out while promoting Mekong Delta agriculture.
