The government leader will serve as the president of the council, while Deputy PM Vu Duc Dam and Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha are named its vice president and standing member, respectively.

The permanent body of the council is the Ministry of Education and Training.

The national council is tasked with supporting the PM in directing the assessment and summarisation of reform in the fields of education, training and human resources development, as well as the finalisation and exploitation of laws on education, educational development strategies and Vietnam’s human resources development plan for 2016-2021.

In addition, the council is responsible for researching and consulting with the government and the PM on issuing education, training and human resources development policies and on building and implementing important mechanisms, policies and projects in the fields of education, training and vocational education.

PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has also signed a decision on fine-tuning the National Committee on Education and Training Reform for the 2016-2021 period.

Accordingly, the PM works as the committee’s president, while its vice presidents are deputy PMs. Permanent members of the committee include the Minister of Education and Training and the Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

The committee is obliged to support the PM in researching, directing, regulating and handling important intersectoral affairs in order to successfully realise the radical renovation of education and training.
