Gala marks nine years of children's heart operation programme

A gala night to mark nine-years of a charitable heart operation programme for children – the "For Children’s Hearts" programme, was held in Hanoi on June 4 in the presence of National Assembly (NA) Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Hosted by the Tam Long Viet (Vietnam’s Heart) Foundation run by Vietnam Television and supported by military run telecom Viettel Group, the live gala also welcomed representatives from related ministries, agencies, doctors, benefactors, and audience members accompanying the programme over the last nine years.

Speaking at the event, NA Chairman Ngan expressed her sincere thanks to the organisers of the programme, as well as units, individuals, enterprises and donors both at home and abroad who have accompanied the programme over nearly a decade. She applauded Vietnam’s Heart Foundation and Viettel’s efforts in organising the programme over the past years.

Thanks to the compassion of donors and gala organisers, the programme has linked love, attention and sharing, while mobilising social resources to help disadvantaged children who are suffering from congenital heart diseases hope for a better life.

The program has mobilised the enthusiastic support of doctors, mass organisations, individuals and organisations with the amount of over VND120 billion since 2008, thereby supporting capacity building for cardiovascular hospitals; free screening for the early detection of congenital heart disease for tens of thousands of poor children in remote and isolated areas; and supporting modern medical equipment for many heart hospitals.

Thanks to support from the programme, more than 3,500 disadvantaged child patients with medical conditions have been cured of heart diseases and offered free heart surgeries, affording them the opportunity to live, learn and play normally with a healthy heart.
