At the meeting, General Ngo Xuan Lich, Minster of Defence, presented gifts to five Vietnamese heroic mothers and granted certificates of merit to 160 individuals who have made significant contributions to the national defence and the development of the Vietnamese people’s army.

Speaking at the event, Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Minister of Defence reaffirmed that the Party, State, army and society as a whole, always attach great care for wounded soldiers, national contributors and policy beneficiaries.

With this spirit in mind a wide range of practical programmes have been deployed in military units to build social houses and present saving books for policy beneficiaries, to provide care for Vietnamese heroic mothers, create jobs for the children of war martyrs, and provide free health check-ups and treatment for national contributors.

Military units have searched for, found and repatriated more than 950,000 sets of martyrs' remains. Since 2007, the units have mobilised more than VND 618 billion (US$ 27 million) to care for those who have contributed to the national revolution and the country’s construction.

The Deputy Defence Minister asked that all military units provide better care for wounded soldiers and the families of war martyrs, and to coordinate with the relevant agencies to review and complete policies targeting policy beneficiaries and national contributors.
