PM Phuc calls for better care for national contributors

It is crucial to implement preferential policies and comprehensive socio-economic policies more effectively, for people who have made meritorious contributions, while providing education and vocational training for national contributors and their relatives.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the above requirement during a conference held in the central Quang Nam province, on July 22, to honour contributors to the national revolution on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day (July 27).

At the event, the leaders of Quang Nam presented a summary of the 20 year implementation of preferential policies for national contributors in the province and honoured its localities for caring for wounded and fallen soldiers since the reestablishment of the province (1997).

According to the report, Quang Nam has the largest number of policy beneficiaries across the nation, with the number of revolutionary contributors accounting for more than 23% of its population.

The province has more than 65,400 martyrs and over 135,000 of their relatives; over 30,500 wounded soldiers and more than 45,300 people who have made contributions to the revolution. Notably, the province has 14,795 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers (13,881 passed away) and all of them are supported by the relevant agencies, units and enterprises.

Speaking at the conference, on behalf of the Party and the State, PM Phuc showed his appreciation for the results achieved by Quang Nam in the work of paying gratitude to national contributors. The province is the first locale to advance the budget on building gratitude houses for revolutionary contributors and recorded good results in certifying their records, as well as mobilising agencies and businesses to donate savings books to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and build houses of gratitude for policy beneficiaries.

These results and actions have partly alleviated the losses and shows the responsibility of the State in providing for those who made sacrifices for the revolutionary cause, the PM said.

He also praised war invalids and wounded soldiers in sharing their difficulties with the locality, whilst at the same time expressing his wish that Quang Nam’s national contributors continue to promote their revolutionary tradition to overcome difficulties in life and contribute to the development of their homeland.

The PM noted that in the coming time, in addition to boosting socio-economic development, the province needs to continue to improve their gratitude work and the implementation of policies for national contributors.

"We cannot be reassured when the lives of families of people who have contributed meritorious services remain difficult, while there are still individuals and their families who do not fully enjoy the preferential policies of the Party and the State, and while there are still many remains of martyrs that have still not been found and identified. These issues leave a pain in the hearts of their relatives and in each of us," PM Phuc shared.

He proposed to focus on reviewing and establishing dossiers on confirming national contributors and the posthumous conferment of the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother, while improving the search and collection of the remains of martyrs and their identities.

He also urged for more resources to support the construction of nearly 9,000 homes for national contributors and further investment for the rehabilitation of martyrs 'cemeteries, as well as creating favourable conditions for martyrs' relatives to search for martyrs' remains, in addition to facilitate the gratitude movement to care for contributors, striving to reach the target of ensuring that 100% of revolutionary contributors in Quang Nam have a living standard equal to or higher than the average level of local people by 2020.

On the occasion, the provincial leaders awarded the Certificate of Merit from Quang Nam provincial People's Committee to 36 national contributors and 102 collectives with outstanding achievements in the work.
