PM's decision on establishment of Vietnam Press Museum announced

The Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA) held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 16 to announce the Prime Minister’s decision on the establishment of the Vietnam Press Museum.

Under the decision, signed on July 28, 2017, the museum will be located inside the VJA’s headquarters on Duong Dinh Nghe street, Yen Hoa ward, in the Cau Giay district of Hanoi.

The VJA-run museum is tasked with collecting, preserving and exhibiting cultural heritages which represent the establishment and development of Vietnam’s press.

It will also conduct research to help safeguard and uphold the cultural heritage value of the Vietnamese press.

On the occasion, a collection of four volumes of the original issues of Gia Dinh newspaper, and 1,200 articles on Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelagos, presented by journalist-collector Tran Thanh Phuong, were displayed at the event.

Phuong is among the donors who have donated historical documents and original objects to the VJA under a programme launched by the association six months ago to call on all available resources to enrich the museum’s collection.

The donors have presented printed and hand-written documents as well as newspapers published between 1945 and 1975.

There are also valuable objects including a printer that was made in 1966, which was presented by Lap Viet Printing Company in Cao Bang province, and four bronze statues of war martyrs presented by sculptor Tran Thanh Phong from Ho Chi Minh City.
