Department of Agriculture and Rural Development inspects the flood and tide prevention activity

On October 6, the delegation led by Temporary Director of Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Van Hoa, inspected the flood and tide prevention activity.

At the main drains along the provincial road 864 such as Cai La drain in Hiep Duc commune, Giong Tre drain in Binh Phu commune, Cai Lay district and Ong Khanh drain, Cai Be district, water level was plus 1.7 meters, increased 0.03 meters in comparision with the previous day. It was continuing to rise in the next day due to the peak tide.

These drains was being closed 24 hours a day to protect more than 9,600 hectares of fruit and vegetable crops in the west and south of Ba Rai river areas. However, due to the high tides in the peak and heavy rain, the water level in the south of National Highway 1A rose sharply and complicated. So, it required a professional operation with the active participation of local authorities and the vigilance of the people in the prevention of tides and floods to protect safety the agricultural production, property and people's life.

According to the Tien Giang provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, from October 7th to October 10th, the water level in the Tien River and the canals in the western districts continues to rise due to the high tidal peak The water level may be higher than the average for many years from 0.03 to 0.08 meters. This asks the local authorities to prepare flood control measures in the field, to prevent tides from attacking orchards, to harvest the summer-autumn 2017 crop, especially strengthening the inspection of the dyke reinforcing the low dykes,... It is necessary to closely monitor hydro-meteorological forecasting information to cope with natural disasters in order to minimize the damage.
