To intensify food safety inspection in 2018: Chairman of the PPC

Chairman of Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Le Van Huong has just presided over the conference on summarizing food hygiene and safety in 2017 and deploying tasks in 2018.

In 2017, the work of food hygiene and safety was coordinated among agencies, departments, branches and localities in the management of food safety, in particular, the monitoring of the use of banned substances, preservatives substance in the processing of fresh food, vegetable samples and sanitation at slaughter facilities. The functional sectors took over 530 samples of agricultural and aquatic products of all kinds, detecting and handling five cases of food poisoning with 192 people poisoned.

According to the plan in 2018,  the Tien Giang provincial Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene will focus on implementing four food safety objectives to improve the capacity of the State management system on food safety at all levels for food safety control; food production, trading and processing establishments inspected to meet food hygiene and safety requirements; To issue certificates of satisfaction of food safety conditions; to reduce the number of food poisoning cases and the number of infected people; to monitor and control food contamination risks.

Chairman of the PPC Le Van Huong said that the work of food hygiene and safety in the province in recent years has seen many positive changes. However, the actual situation poses a lot of difficulties and challenges and to ensure food safety to aiming at protecting people's health, thus the functional departments need to strengthen food safety control including the guidance, processing and inspection. The propaganda activities must be further strengthened, especially the promotion of warning, guidance and provision of information on food safety for consumers.

On this occassion, the PPC awarded 43 collectives ans 12 individuals got outstanding achievements in carrying out the competition for food safety in 2017
