Tourism development based on the preservation of cultural heritage architecture

The Tien Giang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism in collaboration with Chieu Hoa Women's University of Japan has just held a seminar on "Tourism development based on the preservation of the architecture of European-Vietnamese cultural heritage ".

Deputy Chairman of the Tien Giang provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Duc, delegates from Duong Lam Ancient Village (Hanoi), experts on preservation of Japanese architecture and ancient cultural heritage, etc… attended this seminar.

The seminar aimed at assessing the status and orientation of community tourism through conservation and promotion of heritage values in the Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village; Introducing the potential for ecotourism development in association with the Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village; Sharing experience in management and exploitation of ancient villages in service of tourism; to share experiences and learn about tourism development associated with the preservation of cultural heritage in the ancient villages as well as Japan, etc...

At the seminar, Chairman of Dong Hoa Hiep commune People's Committee Vo Minh Nhut said that the ancient villiage Dong Hoa Hiep Village now has 10 ancient houses with unique architecture, combining with tourism development. In 2003, Dong Hoa Hiep was assisted by a coordinating group of JICA (Japan) to renovate some degraded houses as well as fencing, planting trees, creating shade and landscape.
In order to strengthen the management, preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the ancient village, in the past, the locality has focused on mobilizing households to manage their houses in the status quo, not breaking the structure. At present, on average, more than 119,000 visitors to Cai Be, mainly visit Dong Hoa Hiep village, a point of interest in the ecological tour, community tourism.

A representative of the Japanese General Department Culture Kanai Ken appreciated the preservation heritage site of the Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village, where many precious and unique houses have been preserved. Kanai Ken said that Japan could share good experiences in preserving cultural heritage; at the same time, exploiting the potential of smoke-free industry with Vietnam in general, including the Dong Hoa Hiep ancient village in particular.

Tien Giang province will promote the advantages, overcome difficulties and limitations in preserving the heritage of the ancient village, in order to serve tourists better and better and bring great socio-economic benefits; the valuable cultural heritage will be increasingly promoted and developed.
