Nearly VND913 billion raised for COVID-19 prevention and control in Ho Chi Minh City

ABO/NDO - As of July 9, Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee has received donations worth a total of nearly VND913 billion (nearly US$40 million) from localities, individuals and enterprises to support COVID-19 prevention and control.

According to the City Fatherland Front Committee, the COVID-19 prevention and control in the whole country in general and the city in particular have obtained many important results, especially the valuable contributions from people of all walks of life as well as agencies, units, organisations and individuals in the country and abroad.

Since March 20, the City's Committee for Mobilisation, Reception and Distribution of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Fund has launched and received donations worth a total of over VND912.711 billion.

Under the donations, the cash source reached over VND765.062 billion (over US$33.3 million), including VND10 billion from Hai Phong City, VND2 billion from Quang Nam, VND2 billion from Thanh Hoa, VND2 billion from Binh Dinh, VND2 billion from Lam Dong, VND1.3 billion from Ha Tinh and VND1 billion from Quang Ngai.

Ho Chi Minh City has also received assistance with goods and equipment worth total VND147.649 billion (over US$6.4 million).

* Representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health received 100,000 Trueline COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test kits from Medicon Limited Company at Tan Son Nhat International Airport on July 9.

The donation of medical equipment was mobilised by Nhan Dan (People’s) Newspaper to support the city in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The batch of products was shipped free by Vietnam Airlines.

* The Vietnam National Union of Health Workers held a ceremony to receive VND400 million from many agencies, units and enterprises, including VND150 million from the unions of five universities, namely the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the University of Civil Engineering, the University of Natural Sciences, the Hanoi University of Science and Technology and the National Economics University; as well as VND200 million from Deloitte Vietnam Limited Company and VND50 million from the 873 Joint Stock Company.

* Also, yesterday, the Ministry of Health decided to mobilise and send around 10,000 health workers from units under the Ministry and localities in the northern and central regions to support Ho Chi Minh City in the fight against the pandemic.
