US$40,000 handed over to Overseas Vietnamese in Laos amid COVID-19

ABO/NDO - The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos on August 6 handed over US$40,000 to the Overseas Vietnamese (OV) community in Laos as aid from the Vietnamese Government to the OV in the host country amid COVID-19.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung stressed that the Vietnamese Party and State always attach great care to the overseas Vietnamese, including those who are living in Laos, adding that the aid aimed to support OVs in Laos whose livelihoods are being affected by COVID-19 pandemic.

He said that the embassy will closely work with Vietnamese General Consuls in Laos in order to timely deliver the money to OVs across Laos, particularly to those in remote localities.

He also highly lauded the proposals made by the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos in terms of distributing the aid to all people in need.

He called on the OVs community in Laos to follow Lao Government’s COVID-19 prevention and control regulations while continue promoting mutual support and solidarity in the community.

Chairman of the General Association of Vietnamese in Laos Nguyen Duy Trung expressed his gratitude to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, pledging to give the aid quickly to the right people, for the right purposes.

Previously, the Vietnamese Government sent 95,000 medical face masks to the OVs in Laos to support the community’s prevention and control of COVID-19.
