India's Republic Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

The Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City held a function on February 3 to celebrate the January 26 Republic Day, which commemorates the moment the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950.

Consul General Smita Pant said Republic Day was an important milestone for the Indian people, helping to foster the friendship between Vietnam and India, which have now become strategic partners.

The Indian diplomat said the two countries had strengthened cooperation in a wide range of areas, brining substantive benefits to the peoples of both countries.

Expressing her desire to further cooperative relations with Ho Chi Minh City, Consul General Smita Pant emphasised that India would step up cultural exchanges and business connections, as well as other areas of common interest such as IT and education.

For his part, Ho Chi Minh City Deputy Chairman Le Thanh Liem congratulated the Indian people on their achievements and extolled the strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, whose history and culture are similar in many ways.

As of 2016, India had 49 investment projects in Ho Chi Minh City with total capital of US$55 million.
